Biological and social predictors and correlates of human morality
Kopecký, Robin
In this dissertation, we delve into the multifaceted domains of biological and social factors influencing human morality. The connecting element of this collection of four studies is both an interest in human morality as a traditional philosophical topic and the use of methods from empirical sciences, particularly biology, behavioural, and cognitive sciences. The first study focuses on the moral algorithms in autonomous vehicles. We examined moral preferences regarding the choice between software types that differ in their built-in algorithms for dealing with lethal collisions. These are categorized into three specific types: selfish, altruistic, and conservative. Respondents exhibited a preference for the altruistic strategy, which is reinforced when signalled to others. The altruistic preference is the most pronounced when it applies to everybody else, weaker when it reflects only a personal choice, and the weakest when choosing for one's own child. We conclude that making a choice public significantly sways individuals towards a more socially beneficial solution. The second study investigates the relationship between parasite Toxoplasma gondii infection and its subsequent impact on human political beliefs and values. Infected participants exhibited a tendency towards heightened tribalism and...

The Czech Community of Sokol and Its Relationship to Religion in the Period of Interwar Czechoslovakia Abstract This thesis deals with the relationship of the Sokol and religion and at the same time with the relationship to religious organizations predominantly during the First Republic, using period materials from archives and various records of prints that have been preserved to the present day. Blue Box
Šprincl, Marie ; Jančík, Alexandr (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis Blue Box follows a long-term project that began in 2013, when I was on my way to the east coast of the USA. I began creating a mystical Blue Box story around the mythology and ideology of xenophobic movements, after a mystical experience in New York's Orthodox Jewish Quarter and attending a Ku Klux Klan public gathering in Gettysburg. In thematic terms, my work is a universal report about the dangers of extremism in any form, focusing on the essence and mechanisms of its origin and spread.

T. G. Masaryk's Accentuation of the Social Question in second half of the 19th century
Kozák, Vratislav ; Havelka, Miloš (advisor) ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (referee) ; Kubátová, Helena (referee)
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk of the 20th century is a person whose characterization and classification in the society of the time is generally agreed upon among scholars. Masaryk of the 19th century, however, is a very different case. To this day, there is still no consensus among scholars as to how exactly to classify Masaryk, which many simplify by arguing that Masaryk himself was indecisive in this regard, devoting himself to many things at once but not always fully. The central issue of the second half of the 19th century was undoubtedly the social question, which is also difficult for many to grasp, since it can be viewed in either a very specific or a very general way. With this in mind, in my thesis I not only focus on Masaryk's view of the social question of the time, but I come up with the hypothesis that it is the social question and its principle of equality that is the central motive of the person of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in the 19th century. I propose a functional Masarykian model for solving the social issues of the time, which is based on the aforementioned concept of equality, but in several interrelated yet sufficiently independent areas, such as religion, politics, nationalism, society and education. I subsequently verify the location of these individual aspects within my Masarykian...
Rational reflection of faith in theology
Koch, Rudolf ; Salvet, Ondřej (advisor) ; Svoboda, David (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with theological reflection on the doctrine of the knowledge of the Christian faith. True knowledge is possible only with an understanding of the philosophical reason with which faith is interrelated. Reasonable thinking has its origins in the Greco-Roman wisdom of antiquity. The aim of the thesis is to describe theological teachings that deal with the search for truth from the time of ancient philosophy. The ancient books of the Old Testament describe, in the form of a distinction, the unity between the knowledge of faith and the intellectual knowledge of human truth. The fullness of truth has been perfected in the good news of Jesus and is accessible only in the light of faith. The main sources of faith are the testimonies of early christianity and the origin of the formulation of the confession of faith. The encyclical Fides et ratio, which is the primary source of this work, combines philosophy with theology. The study of philosophy is an essential part of theology and together they support the search for truth. Today's theological reflection emphasizes important aspects in matters of understanding the nature of man and the meaning of life. This truth is available only in the search for God, which is the culmination of every theological reflection. Keywords Word,...
Religious experience and rituals in Czech Neopaganism
El Ouri, Filip ; Horská, Kateřina (advisor) ; Klepal, Jaroslav (referee)
The subject of this thesis is to present the results of my ethnographic research in the setting of one of the most active Czech neopagan organizations, "Slovanský kruh" ( the Slavic Circle ), focusing primarily on capturing the course of gatherings organized by this group, including their ritual component, and how participants describe their experience from these gatherings. In addition, I focus on the role participants attribute to these meetings and experiences in their daily lives, and how they describe their other religious practices. My findings in this thesis are based on data collected during my participant observation at the gatherings of this organization and from interviews with some of the participants of those gatherings. Keywords neopaganism, Slovanský kruh, the Slavic Circle, religion, religious experience, ritual, ethnography, anthropology, the Czech Republic
Religion in the United Nations Security Council
Formánková, Marie ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Dostál, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the occurrence of terms with religious significance in the meeting records of the United Nations Security Council. Religion manifests itself in the private and public spheres, in which it also intervenes in political and international affairs. As it is also present in various forms in the United Nations, the thesis aims to find out whether religion is also manifest in the Security Council and, if so, in what forms and contexts. It also tries to find an answer to the question if there was a temporary increase in the number of mentions of religion after 2001. In addition to the literature, the thesis is based on the analysis of Security Council meetings, that took place in the period 1996- 2006. A dataset was created consisting of ¼ of the meetings for the given period, which means 550 records out of a total of 1 998. Through the analysis of these documents, the thesis focuses not only on the number of religious expressions and their form, but also on the possible causes that may affect their presence. Primarily, it is the thematic focus of the UNSC meeting, which is treated as the main factor in the occurrence of references to religion. Therefore, the thesis tries to find out whether they really represent a fundamental role and in which topics religious aspects occur most...
